The biggest complaint I hear from my students and colleagues is that nobody has any time to practice. To disprove this notion and squeeze in a little extra practice for myself, I decided to create a series of practice vlogs called Practice in the Park. In this video you will find me on the North Hill of Central Park while my son is in his sports class. Rather than sit on the sidelines and scroll on my phone, I snuck away from the action to squeeze in some practice time.
Making Time
As a busy mom, I have finally come to terms with the fact that free time will literally never show itself to me. In order to prioritize my musical wellness and continue to grow and challenge myself as a musician, I will need to MAKE TIME. This means trading out scrolling time, tv time and other time wasters. I don’t want to overwork or stress myself out, but I DO want to make sure I’m making time for self improvement.
Nobody knows and nobody cares that I’m practicing in the Park
You’d think that someone would have noticed that I was singing in the middle of Central Park. Guess what? It’s New York City and frankly there are way sketchier things going on than someone singing a bit. My son didn’t care that I wasn’t sitting on the sidelines (it wasn’t a big game – just a class!) and none of the parents thought I was being rude by not hanging out. Honestly, if I’m not needed, then it’s time for some me time!
