Someone decided to send this to me via DM. The crazy part is that this person had already hired me to give a workshop for their school. They were upset that I had (*gasp*) other products that I was selling and she didn’t like my pricing strategy.
The New Mini Workshop
As you may know, this week I launched a new mini workshop called Crash Course in Piano Skills for Singers. The workshop consists of 7 video modules, a 20 page course book and weekly encouragement emails. For $49, participants get 45 day access to all of this as a way to jump start their piano skills.
Even though I’m only charging $49, the program is very high quality. It has proven to provide great results, it was peer reviewed by 10 of my voice teacher colleagues and I made it – so I know it’s good.
Let’s Talk About Pricing
Here’s the thing about pricing – there are a lot of reasons for why and how things are priced. In this case, I am offering a low ticket product to invite people to explore their piano skills in a very low stakes way. I want to encourage people to actually try!
At the same time, as a new business owner (my membership The Versatile Musician is only 6 months old), I want to invite people to get to know my work and see if I am a good fit for them. This is a perfect way for people to come into the fold and see if we match. I have a LOT to offer and I again want to support people who are at various stages to explore and expand their musicianship.
Every Launched a Business?
Anyone who has ever launched a new business knows how challenging it can be. Self doubt abounds and it can feel like an uphill battle pointed at failure for a long time before gaining any traction at all. I have cried many many nights and have told my husband I’m quitting at least 700 times. But, here I am still at it.
When another businessperson decides to share their ugly, I admit it frickin’ HURTS. But, I am lucky to be in an amazing community of fellow business owners who share their goods and bads and provide support in times like these.
After a few minutes of licking my wounds, I took a look at this statement (and many other ugly ones that this same person decided to DM me) and saw it for what it was: someone who doesn’t understand my business (and also has kind of a huge attitude problem).
Some Encouragement for You
For anyone else out there who is in the trenches I say this: go be your badass self and all the haters can sit in their own filth while we are here ACTUALLY BUILDING SOMETHING. Keep going!
I’m lucky that most of the people I encounter love the work I’m doing and offer their encouragement, their appreciation and their support. Today, I offer that to YOU.
