If you have ever wanted to play your favorite songs but don't have strong sight reading skills, in this video I teach you how to create your own piano arrangements. All you need is the ability to play basic major and minor chords and you're good to go!
Step 1: Right Hand Play the Melody
A small amount of sight reading is required here. All you need to do is read the notes in the right hand. Take your time and don't worry too much about the rhythms yet!
Step 2: Left Hand Play the Chords
Your left hand should zip through and make sure it is able to play all of the chords. Struggling with your chords? Download the free chord printable below...

Step 3: Left Hand Play Chords/Right Hand Play Melody
Take a moment to make sure you can play the chords hands together. This is the first step to create your own piano arrangements!
Step 4: Left Hand Play Root and 5th
Believe it or not, playing only the root and the 5th of the chord can sound super sophisticated and open. I love this as an alternative to playing the entire chord. The best news? You don't have to learn anything new!
Step 5: Left Hand Pulse 5ths
This pulsing accompaniment style sounds fantastic and doesn't require a lot of coordination.
Step 6: Stepping Left Hand
This left hand accompaniment strategy works so well for any song that is on the slower side. Create your own piano arrangements for songs like Wonderful Tonight and Let it Be!
Master Creating Your Own Piano Arragements!
The trick to this method is to start with easier songs - songs that don't have complicated melodies or a ton of chords. Start slow and work through one step at a time. Before you know it, you'll be playing all your favorite songs!
