About My Funny Valentine
My Funny Valentine was written by the legendary songwriting team of Rodgers and Hart. Richard Rodgers was a lifelong New Yorker who wrote the music for Broadway Musicals. He won a Pulitzer for his masterpiece Oklahoma! in 1944. Lorenz Hart was a lyricist who wrote the majority of his work in partnership with Richard Rodgers.
My Funny Valentine was written for the 1936 musical Babes in Arms. The movie version featured a 17-year-old Judy Garland a 19-year-old Mikey Rooney in the lead roles.
My favorite versions of My Funny Valentine are the iconic Miles Davis recording from 1964 and Chet Baker.
