All About 2-5-1s in Minor

Jazz theory is a hairy monster for many folks, which is why I am creating tutorials to explain some of the most important concepts.  It’s not hard – it’s just a little bit different.  In this tutorial, I follow up on my recent tutorial on the 2-5-1 progression.  Today, I am going to teach you all about the 2-5-1 in minor – where it comes from, what to do with it, how to practice it and how to identify it in songs.  Once again, this is fun and super easy!!

Random Songs I Like #15 – Ladies in Mercedes

Random Songs I Like Week #15.  This is a brilliant composition by jazz bassist and composer Steve Swallow, with hysterical lyrics by British jazz vocalist Norma Winstone.  This song has always resonated with me, since I moved to the Uber-fancy Upper East Side of Manhattan.  This is the performance that I captured on my 2019 album Solo Sessions Volume 1.  Buy the album here:  https://brendaearlestokes.bandcamp.com
