In my never-ending quest for self-improvement, I am always looking for ways to take a deeper look at my mindset and productivity. In this case, I take a moment and ask myself the question “What is holding me back?”
Making a list
I take an honest and not-too-self-deprecating look around my life and try to determine what might be keeping me from really moving forward. Here are a few that have shown up at different times in my life.
What was holding me back:
1. Disorganization
I have struggled with chronic disorganization for a lot of my life. (just ask my college roommates!). As I started trying to take more bold steps in my career, I realized that I didn’t have the right systems in play to really accomplish these tasks. I had to address my disorganization by exploring minimalism.
2. Irrational fear of technology
When I started dreaming about creating my first online course, I was held back for a long time because I had no experience with technology. Actually, I was totally afraid of it. I was never a computer whiz and had zero experience with cameras or video editing.
3. Discomfort of self promotion
I have never felt comfortable doing marketing of any kind and self promotion was SOOOO challenging for me.
Once I had taken some time to go sit with each of these issues, I was able to put them on my “to do” list. Obviously, I was unable to fix these issues over night, but I was able to keep them in mind as I moved forward.
