Motivation Monday: Are we having any fun?

As artists, we can sometimes get so bogged down by our serious study, that we forget to ask one simple question:  Are we having any fun?  This is another video in my series called Motivation Mondays!

What the question “Are we having any fun” reveals

It is important to go back to the basics of what brought us to make music to begin with.  For me, it was the amazing joy of jazz pianist Oscar Peterson, who I got to enjoy live many times.  (I even took an impromptu lesson with him once!)  Oscar exudes joy when he plays, as though he is having the time of his life.  It is absolutely incredible to watch.  No one ever has to ask him “are you having any fun?”

Whenever I get too stuck into my seriousness, I try to reflect back on how to find the joy and fun in my music.

In this video, I give several suggestions on how to have more fun in your practice time.  It’s always wise to ask yourself “Are we having any fun?”

More Motivation for You!

What is holding you back?
