Amazing Grace is a hymn published in 1779 by English Anglican clergyman and poet John Newton.  Newton managed to write the most sung and recorded hymn every to be composed, which was based on his own experience of coming to Christianity as a young man.

His story was inspired by his experience after serving in the Royal Navy, where he because involved with the US Slave trade.  Once he left that job he studied the Bible and eventually ended up as an abolitionist and ordained Anglican minister.

Amazing Grace uses relatively simple and straightforward harmony.  In this tutorial I show you how to use two different accompaniment strategies to accompany your singing and strategies for how to play the melody.

For more of a gospel-sounding version, you can use the “Pulsing” accompaniment strategy.

When you play the melody in the RH, you can hold the chords in the LH or pulse the chords in the LH.  Easy!
